Beatriz S. Santacana (Havana, 1975)
A contemporary self-taught artist born in Havana whose work ranges from sculpture in ceramic and mixed media, to paintings and murals.
She has participated in numerous Solo and collective exhibitions in several countries. She has received various awards and mentions.
Her art explores the lights and shadows in human nature and relationships in contemporary society.
“In my sculptures I combine apparently incompatible materials —colorful ceramics and rusty sheets of metal, twisted pipes, wood from old lamp posts or wheels from unknown mechanisms—. All those rejected and ruined objects, far from being at odds with the bright finish of the ceramics, evolve toward new meanings and a greater expressive force
